Had an awesome show last week with Lane Beckstrom and Matt Carroll at the amazing new Constellation Chicago as a part of the TRI TONE series. The show was given Critics Pick by Time Out Chicago magazine and we had a standing room only turnout. Pics coming soon.
I was recently featured on Alex Wiley’s debut mixtape Club Wiley on three tracks. You can hear the mixtape via Soundcloud here, or download it via The Source. You can hear me on ”The Woods”, “Midnight to Morning feat Kembe X”, and “Suck It Revolution”.
I also went into the studio with Tone Step this past Wednesday, and I’m really excited to start the mixing and post production process.
This summer is set to be very busy and I couldn’t be more excited to make music with the people and projects I’m involved in currently. I recently played a show at Martyrs with indie band Passerines and have been working with Chance the Rapper and Lili K. Producer Peter Cottontale on a new recording project so stay tuned for more on that.
You can hear my trumpet on Chance The Rapper’s new video/single Good Ass Intro alongside some of my favorite Chicago artists: Chance, Lili K., Kiara Lanier, BJ The Chicago Kid, with incredible production by Peter Cottontale and Stephan Ponce.
January was busy!
The Blue Bayou sessions have gained lots of momentum since we started back in September. Every Thursday there’s a small crowd of people who come to hear the house band (Tone Step) and by 10:30 the place is ridden with jazz musicians who come out for the jam. New $3 Sam Adams drafts are helping out too.
Tone Step had their first performance outside of their indigenous habitat (Blue Bayou) in the thick of last Sunday’s ice storm for a small gathering of people as a part of Andrew Trim’s House Party series. I had a blast and the music was well received and now I’m inspired to take the band into the recording studio and document the music we’ve been playing at the Blue Bayou for the past few months. You can listen to our set on the SOUNDS page.
I’ve recently been working on The O’My’s new Hip Hop mixtape project which is due out at the beginning of this year and features a slew of Chicago’s dopest rappers. At one of the recording sessions I was introduced to up-and-coming rap artist Alex Wiley. I’ve been writing and recording horns for a few songs that will be on his debut mixtape which features Raekwon, Freddie Gibbs, GLC, Chance The Rapper, and more. I’m on some upcoming shows with The O’My’s and Alex Wiley so check the LIVE page for details.
Also excited about some projects I’ve been working on lately that features my production/singing/songwriting. I hope to share that with you this spring.
Not too long ago I was a part of a live video taping of ZZ Ward’s new single “Lil’ Darlin” featuring The O’My’s, a local Funk/Soul/Blues outfit that is on the up and coming.
Enjoy this Video of us performing Lil Darlin Live with ZZ Ward.
